Today I went to an AA (alcohols anonymous) meeting and it was really inspiring.
I am not an alcoholic nor have I ever drunken alcohol.
I am part of a club at school that requires all its members to go to a AA meeting to hear about other peoples experiences with alcohol and drugs. I was actually really nervous walking into the room full of alcoholics. I honestly did not know what to expect and for some reason I had this predisposition to what an alcoholic looked like.
When I walked into the room, everyone was so nice and welcoming.
I truly could not tell they were alcoholics.
Listening to all their stories and experiences was really something.
There was one lady who said that after she became sober, it was extremely hard to fight the temptations but you eventually reach this point where something just snaps inside you and everything in life seems brighter, the sky is bluer and the grass is greener.
I think it is just incredible that these people are overcoming their disease and fears.
